This Steampunk inspired image was accomplished with an LED stick + blue gel on camera left as well as a subtle LED stick + yellow gel on camera right. In the front, I have a speedlight + a beauty dish + grid to serve as the flash that freezes the motion in rear curtain sync. Additionally I have a parabolic softbox + diffuser pointed up from the floor to fill in the light below the binoculars. The shutter drag technique was used with the gels to create sort of a futuristic Steampunk/travelling through time kind of vibe. The antique binoculars are the hero in the image with the huge catch lights, highlighted rims, and traces of color trails. I wanted this to be more of a close up shot to allow the color trails to have a little more attention while freezing the moving portrait in time.
