Richard is a friend and long term environmentalist who has been adviser to the UN on desertification in Africa. A very quiet humble man; he is also fearless. I wanted to portray that quiet strength. I used the Westcott Optical Spot by Lindsay Adler with a window gobo defocussed on the background, a zoom reflector with grid to amplify the grittiness on his face and leather jacket and a large umbrella as a fill. I decided the close crop worked best to make his face the hero.
