This project was inspired by one of my favorite films, Bladerunner, which is a beautiful melding of sci-fi and film noir. Narrative is something I struggle with in my photography, my goal here was to practice by creating a short narrative story and turn that into a photo. I’ll paste it below if you’d like to read it. I built this set in my studio using diffusion material, curtains, V Flats, a set of old blinds, and a grid ceiling panel for some interesting light effects. The key light is an optical spot, focused to a narrow slit, aimed through the “window”, there is also a purple fill right next to it. A blue fill and a blue accent light come from the other side. A Prism Lens FX Lucid Dream filter was used for that soft film noir look. The prop blaster is mine, I have a collection of a few movie prop replicas which occasionally make it into photos. 🙂
So… A replicant named Saturn has just incapacitated a Bladerunner and taken their weapon, she is now on the run from the LAPD while she tries to escape the city. Saturn ducks in to a run down apartment building to catch her breath, while hiding in an empty unit she peers out the blinds to see a police search light peering back at her!
